Happy August, all. The Briar Girls promotional season is starting up soon, and I wanted to let you know about a few upcoming events I’m very excited about!
Virtual Book Talk with McKinney Public Library
Next Monday, I’ll be visiting (virtually!) the McKinney Public Library to discuss inclusive storytelling and sending reluctant heroes on high stakes adventures! It’s my first event for Briar Girls, which makes it both exciting and a little nerve-wracking! The event is on August 9 at 7pm Central. Visit the McKinney Public Library website for the event link.
Private Bookseller AMA!
Are you a bookseller who loves YA fantasy? I’m hosting my very first private bookseller AMA on Monday August 16 at 8pm Eastern, and I would love to see you there. I’ll answer questions on all things Briar Girls, Shatter the Sky, Storm the Earth, Ted Lasso, how long writing a book takes (8?? Years??), The Bachelor/ette and my favorite Bachelor-esque books, why golden retrievers are the best, or whatever else comes up. RSVP via this form to receive the event link, and please share if you have other bookseller friends who would be interested!
Briar Girls Preorders
I’ve been dreaming up a preorder campaign for Briar Girls (my very first!), which I’m excited to announce soon! In the meantime, make sure you keep track of your receipts if you’ve already preordered (and thank you so much!). To answer an oft-asked question—yes, there will also be rewards for library requests and international preorders!
Briar Girls is now available to preorder from your favorite book retailer, whoever that may be. If you would like a signed and/or personalized copy, you can order from Porter Square Books or Belmont Books! (Make sure to put requests for signing/personalization in the comments field of your order!)
What I’ve Been Reading and Watching
Need a recommendation? I’ve got So. Many. (Although mostly not YA or fantasy—I tend not to read in my own genre while I’m actively writing it…)
Recently I’ve been watching Ted Lasso (well worth the Apple TV subscription if you’ve got the spare change for a few months). If you’ve finished Lasso and are looking around for what else to watch on Apple TV, I’ve also enjoyed Dickinson and am cautiously watching both Physical and Schmigadoon!.
Audiobooks! I’ve spent a lot of time in the car lately and a good audiobook really makes the time fly. Recently I’ve enjoyed the audiobooks of The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Becky Chambers) and Finlay Donovan Is Killing It (Elle Cosimano).
Finally, in print books, I’ve loved While We Were Dating (Jasmine Guillory’s latest), You Had Me at Hola (Alexis Daria), The Charm Offensive (Alison Cochrun) (coming September 7!), and The Ruin of Kings (Jenn Lyons).
More to come, but that’s all for now!
Best,
Rebecca
